Deckle arrangements
Deckles are fixed solid strips located on top of and inside the side edges of the paper machine wet-end wire. They are used to prevent the spill of fibers over the sides and determine the width of the web of paper that can be run on a particular machine.
For a new fourdrinier or to recondition an existing one, Mecfab can supply, fabricate and machine any required deckle arrangements. We can supply deckles as per customer drawings or of our own design. Our standard deckle arrangements are made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) but we can also supply them in other material types, such as Robadur, Solitron or UHMW.
Framing
The frame is the supporting structure of a paper machine. We supply framing sections with a new fourdrinier or modify existing ones as required.
Our framing structures are made of mild steel. Cross members can be made in solid S/S or cladded in 316L S/S.
Extension
We can help you recondition your existing fourdrinier at a lower cost than by purchasing a new one. We can design, fabricate and install extensions to your actual machine and re-locate your existing rolls. Our fourdrinier extension assemblies include :
- Main beam extensions of solid 316L stainless steel or carbon steel with 316L S/S cladding
- Double wall savealls (for heated savealls)
- Saveall supports also in 316L
- Related hardware
Guide
A guide is a mechanism (air or manually operated) either floor or machine mounted to which the bearing housing on one end of a wire roll is attached. By effectively pivoting this roll, in the machine direction, around the non guide mounted bearing housing, proper tracking of the fourndrinier wire can be achieved.
Mecfab Inc. offers a wide variety of manual or automatic guides that will meet your specifications, with the required accessories and installation components. We offer the following guides and accessories:
Types of materials:
- Solid Stainless Steel 316L
- Cast Iron
Manufacturers options:
- Gilbert & Nash Co. Inc.
- Jud Corp.
- Kan-Eng Ind.
- Voith Paper – Thune auto guide
Soleplates
For a new fourdrinier or to recondition an existing one, Mecfab can supply, fabricate and machine any required soleplates as per your specifications. Our standard soleplates are made of mild steel and can be supplied with levelling screws and jacking plates.
Saveall Pans
For a new fourdrinier or to recondition an existing one, Mecfab can supply, fabricate and machine any required saveall pans. We can supply them as per your drawings or take the dimensions ourselves and perform the engineering.
Our standard saveall pans are made of solid stainless steel and can be supplied in any design or size. All our tray systems are prefitted in our plant and shipped in mimum knocked-down condition to minimize installation time at mill.
Breast Roll
Our standard breast roll swing arm arrangement for fourdriniers includes:
- Arms of solid Stainless Steel 316L
- New bearing housings in S/S 316L
- New scotchply for shake
- New brackets for forming board
- Actuator screws with cross shaft, air motor, pivot brackets and handwheel
- Arm support posts or bracket attached to the headbox for breast roll lock-up
- Pivot brackets with pivot pins in S/S 316L
MecFab Inc. can help you choose the best solution for your needs. We can supply the engineering, materials, fabrication and machining for your arrangement. We can also complete your assembly with any of the following parts:
- Breast roll cap & saddle
- Jack or doctor mountings
- Screw jack clevis bracket
- Fourdrinier end insert
- Swing arm lock-up
Wire Roll
Fourdrinier wet end wire roll, located on the return run of a fourdrinier, whose function is to drive, guide, turn, and apply tension to the wire (forming fabric). These functions are sometimes performed by the couch roll or separate additional solid rolls.
The wire drive roll or guide roll may also automatically adjust its angle to maintain alignment of the wire to minimize side-to-side movement and prevent possible damage or runoff.
Shake Unit
The shake mechanism serves to vibrate the wire section to improve the orientation of the fibers during the formation of the paper web. This side-to-side motion of paper machine wires running at slow speeds is caused by oscillating the breast and table rolls on which the fabric is carried to align more fibers in the cross direction and improve sheet formation.
Mecfab can help you recondition your existing fourdrinier at a lower cost than by purchasing a new one. We can design, fabricate and install a new shake unit on your existing machine or suggest an alternative method to meet your needs. We also supply custom shake units on new fourdriniers.
